Heather Matesich Cousins

ABOUT

Heather Cousins is the author of Something in the Potato Room, selected by poet Patricia Smith as the winner of the 2009 Kore Press Book Award.  

Heather grew up in Bear Lake, Michigan, a small town in the northern part of Michigan's lower peninsula.  Bear Lake has a village population of a little over three hundred people. Many of her poems explore the physical and cultural landscape of small-town Michigan.

Her poems have been published in Alehouse, The Yalobusha Review, The Country Dog Review, Staccato, La Petite Zine, The Dunes Review, and the Ambassador Poetry Project.

"Part I" of Something in the Potato Room was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.  "The Field," a poem published at The Country Dog Review in spring 2009, has also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

She lives in Monroe, Georgia with her husband David and their two dogs, Oscar and Scout.
